NAMIBIAN hip-hop will meet European house, rock and hip-hop sounds at the Eunic music festival set to take place at the Warehouse Theatre on 26 May.
Young, vibrant and taking the genre by storm, Kp Illest and Lioness will set the stage ablaze with their brand of hip-hop which is grounded in truly Namibian storytelling accompanied by beats that make their sound accessible not only to Namibians but beyond borders too.
Lioness is a 24-year-old Namibian songwriter and rapper. She has established herself in the Namibian music industry by effortlessly displaying her complex and tight-knit lyrical capabilities in various local hip-hop and rap cyphers and live performances in the country.
Kp Illest, on the other hand, is a well-established hip-hop artist in Namibia. He is an artist for the people, creating songs that reflect what is going on in his society, and often taking the opportunity to speak on issues that need to be addressed. He acts as a voice of not only young people but most people in his society.
The two will be joined by three international acts for the highly anticipated festival.
French DJ Crabbe is considered as a reference in house music, mixing his sounds with traditional African music.
Portuguese hip-hop singer Valas already performed in more than 100 concerts in Portugal and has become one of the most promising names in contemporary hip-hop, performing at important festivals in the country such as Vodafone Mexefest, Sumol Summer Fest or MEO Sudoeste. He is now preparing to release his first solo album.
From Germany, Alice and Maike from Chefboss are entering nearly all big German festivals like ‘Rock am Ring’ and ‘Rock im Park’, on their golden BMX bikes, accompanied by their dancers in golden masks. Together with the producer of their confidence, they created Vogueing rhythms – ‘Vogueing like Vogue’, and ‘Rhythms like the Caribbean’.
The Eunic Music Festival starts from 17h00 till late and will be hosted by Denzel Leroy. Within the spirit of a true festival, there will be food stalls with a showcase of European food available.
